The Art of Pressed Flowers

Whether you are foraging your local wild flora, harvesting from a garden, or acquiring plants from local vendors, the magic of working with pressed flowers is an exciting foray into connection between hand-crafted art and the natural world. In this class you will learn about observation, collection, preservation of and creating with pressed flowers. You will explore nature's colors and shapes while developing your eye for contrasts, design, composition and balance. By the end of the program, you will not only have a completed piece of work, you will be ready to take what you've learned and begin a whole new world of discovery! PRACTICAL ELEMENTS OF THIS PROGRAM You will learn: - the connection between pressing flowers and learning more about the natural world, foraging and collecting - what kinds of flowers are good to press and which are more difficult or don't press well - what to do with flowers and leaves that have different densities - how to keep your flowers vibrant and from turning brown when you press them - how to press using different methods and devices - flower press vs everyday home materials - pressing leaves during different seasons - glues and other considerations for creating your final pieces - using frames for your final pieces - making prints from an original - special event pressings (weddings, funerals, etc...)
