Your Botanical Printing Teacher
A Vermont native, Linda has been teaching since 1987 for public, private, and charter schools, as well as writing curriculum and teaching out of her home studio for artists ages 3-83.
She began eco-printing on paper, to accompany her handmade book designs and then expanded her explorations to botanical prints on silk and wool, cotton fibers, leather and ceramics. She loves testing local botanicals for natural dyes and tannins.
She currently resides in California and teaches both locally and around the United States.

Botanical Prints on Fabric
Join Linda for two days of experimental testing on both cottons and silks with local flora!
Students will learn:

How to identify which local leaves print and why
-
The tried and true bundling techniques
-
A variety of mordanting techniques (with both cellulose and protein fibers)
-
How to use transfer blankets (with iron, tannin and natural dyes)
-
How to care for your printed fabrics
Due to the nature of the combination, it’s much more difficult to get clear prints on cellulose fibers (cotton, rayon, bamboo, linen…), so it’s time to make that process a bit easier!
Day 1: Foraging and testing leaves.
Day 2: Expand into more natural tannins & natural dyes.
Come play and explore this magic!
Materials fee: includes mordanted fabrics, tannins and dyes.

The Joy of Botanically Printed Books:
Leather, Paper & Bookbinding
Two busy days of learning:

How to botanically print on leather and paper
-
How to mordant each substrate
-
How to prep and hand-bind your own soft-covered leather journal.
Day 1: You will print beautiful local flora onto a leather hide and onto fine papers.
Day 2: Learn to bind your own soft covered, leather books.
Materials Fee: Covers mordanted fabrics, tannins, dyes, leather, paper, bookbinding materials, and using my precious Japanese screw punch!
Please bring:

Exploring Botanical Prints with Kids!
Kids love nature and the magic she brings.
Please join us after school for a few hours of botanical printing on paper with children ages 8-17! If there is time, we will fold up a nifty book or two!
Please wear play clothes and if possible, fitted disposable gloves!
